Years ago environmentalists complained thatstonewashed jeans, incurred a heavy environmental price for that amazing distressed look. In the production process of manipulating fabrics to attain that distressed look and feel, manufacturers were going to great lengths to keep up with the industry, even if it required compensating with an environmental impact.

There have been reports of environmental poisoning of toxic run-off from factories that used to distress and help produce stonewashed jeans. This run-off was more often than not laden in blue dye and chemicals such as sulfur, caustic soda and hydrocyanic acid. Large quantities of potassium permanganate were also found, a chemical once used to induce abortion was being found in the local water supply!

Tree huggers try and claim that using the technique to soften jeans to give it a washed look takes 5 gallons of water and the amount of energy it takes to power a home for a day. But this old school method is no longer employed.

They also maintain that cotton is one of the most pesticide laden crops in the United States, resulting in the contamination of local groundwater, destruction of biodiversity and endangering the lives of farmers and local communities. In the past, denim required 1 pound of pesticides to make one pound of jeans. Now over 10,000 pairs of stonewashed jeans can be produced with a single gallon of water and no pesticides whatsoever. My oh my technology has improved fashion in so many ways!

So as you can tell by now, stonewashing is a bit of a misnomer at this point. Hardly any water is even used in the process. Environmentalists around the world may now rejoice! They too can now wear stonewashed jeans without sacrificing any moral ground.

Decor For Teen Rooms

Teen rooms are a headache for mothers everywhere. It’s not even like when they were younger. In those days, if their rooms were in a mess, you could shout at them and get them to tidy it up, and, if that didn’t work, you could go in and do it. However, when it comes to teens and their rooms you’re dealing with something whole different.

True, you could go and tell them to tidy up their rooms. And true, you could shout at them a bit too, if you wanted to, or you could go and tidy up the room yourself. However, that’s when the trouble begins. Teen rooms are private places and not to be entered into unless you’re invited to.

Heaven help the person who dares to clean up even one inch of that mess on the carpet. It was there for a good reason and you had absolutely no right to move it. At least, that will be what most teens will argue, and you being the patient, caring mother that you are, will just roll your eyes skywards and explain that the pizza and three-day-old shirt thing just don’t go well together and you were just rescuing them from impending disease.

And in their turn, your teens will roll their eyes and scream, that you should not exaggerate, it wasn’t about to develop legs and walk off on its own, and if it was then wouldn’t that make a fantastic science project. So, you keep cleaning and they keep putting things right back. And you end up right back to square one.

Naturally, one way you could deal with this bomb site is to redecorate it. Teen rooms might be sanctums for them, but even they would like it if you gave their rooms a great makeover.

That doesn’t mean that the room will be any tidier after they have moved back in, but at least you’ll have been able to seen the inside of the room long enough to tide you over for the next few years. That is unless you’re thinking of redoing their rooms every year.

But now you come to your next problem. Since teens are famously different when it comes to their rooms. You might find that your teen rooms are decorated quite differently from what you expected and what you would have done first of all. This is where a comprise should be struck, if your teen wants black for his room, then say you want another colour too that will offset the black.

Be prepared to give in a little on your ideas no matter how ridiculous their ideas seem to you. After all, they’re only a teen for a while and later on they will look back with horror on what bad taste they had had.

As a parent it is your duty to give them these moments in their lives which they can look back on with due horror, and ban their kids from doing the same to their own teen rooms.

Redecorating your house really isn’t that simple and it only gets even less so when you become stuck for ideas. The only real way to get over this lack of interior design ideas, is to sit down, put your feet up and have a cup of tea or coffee.

I’m not kidding, there’s really no substitute for getting a new perspective on things, like taking a break from everything for example. In the first place, you become more relaxed, and in the second place a steaming cup of tea or coffee is always welcome.

Now that you’re sitting down comfortably and are suitably relaxed, close your eyes and envision the room that you want to do up. Even if you are doing more than one room, it’s always a good idea to start with one room first, working your way logically through to the next one and then the next one.

Before you begin your travel through the land of interior design ideas, get yourself a notebook and pen so that you can jot down any good ideas you have before they are forgotten

So, simply lie back and imagine the room in your mind. Try to picture it as you want it to look. And if that’s too hard, first try to replace separate parts of your room or articles in it. This is always a good method of working. But, if you’ve still got a mental drought on interior design ideas, look through some interior design catalogues beforehand so that you have at least some basic ideas of what you can do to redecorate the room.

The interior design catalogues need not be anything more impressive than your free local department store catalogue, turned to the home furnishing pages. Then again, these days you also get specialist stores which deal only with redecorating. If you have the time, a quick trip down to one of these might also help to end the lack of interior design ideas, and will possibly get you started again.

These stores will have staged sets of many designs, giving you a good idea of what your room could look like. However, if you’re going to one of these places, go prepared to spend some cash as no matter how tight a hand you keep on your wallet, you’ll always find something you want to buy.

This isn’t necessarily a bad thing but unless you watch out you could end up buying everything in the store. And without a proper idea of what you want the room to look like, this can turn out disastrous. Not to worry though, if you keep your picture in mind, you can come back and get a start on redecorating your rooms the way you want.
