Trap Grease Used For Transformation To Enviromentally Friendly Fuel

Posted by: Vic Garland  /  Category: Alternative Energy

In a society where green awareness is becoming more significant for individuals, businesses, and mankind as a whole, it’s always important to seek for unique ways to re-use waste material and minimize co2 emissions. Biodiesel is a great way to do this. You’ll be recycling used cooking oil and also reducing your impact on the environment.

The very first step to making biodiesel at home is understanding the process. Once you understand the aspects of biofuel production, then you need to find out if you have a source of waste oil or raw vegetable oil that is less expensive than present diesel prices. It should not be that hard to find oil to convert into bio-diesel even if you have to buy it fresh because fossil fuel prices are particularly high these days.

After you secure your vegetable oil sources you will need a biodiesel plant or biodiesel kit. You can start making biodiesel at your company by using a industrial biodiesel production processor. You can assemble a biodiesel kit or buy a completed biodiesel machine. There are many biodiesel processors on the market and many are non-automated and some are fully automated let safety and your budget be your guide.

If you choose to make your own BioDiesel processor. Designs for this can also be purchased online. Most of these plans call for the use of a water heater. The amount of bio-diesel you can make will depend on the tank size you choose. If you plan on making a large quantity of biodiesel fuel, you should consider a tank farm that will help you reach your production goals.

Next you have to source out actual ingredients to make the Biodiesel. The main ingredients are alcohol, lye and vegetable oil. Before you do this project you must research the process and dangers involved in making bio-diesel at home.

As biodiesel gains more popularity the free waste vegetable oil sources will also decline and people are starting to charge for product that used to be free, such as waste vegetable oil A strong suggestion would be to secure clean suppliers of waste oil long before taking on the biodiesel production challenge.

Some of the best sources for WVO are oriental restaurants because normally the oil is changed frequently and those establishments use loads of canola and soybean oil which are great for biodiesel production. Those oils produce exceptional fuels because they lack the gelling issues of palm or coconut oil in cold weather conditions.

There are rules to follow when gathering waste oils from local businesses, ensure that you speak with the facility manager or kitchen manager before you start taking oil. Also make sure you are being reliable with your pickups and clean the area before you leave if you have any oil spills. The business owners will appreciate you, and ask for referrals after you have shown your value.

Before Using Natural Insecticide, Try This!

Posted by: Owen Jones  /  Category: Environment

Most gardeners and even commercial crop growers are very pleased with themselves if they take a step back from using chemical insecticides and go back to using natural, old-fashioned insecticides. And it is true, they have, but did you know that there is yet another step back too? A step backward in time that does not involve spraying of any kind at all.

So, here are a few things to try before using natural insecticide.

If you are having problems with slugs, half bury a few jam jars in your flower beds and pour some beer into them, about two or three inches deep. Slugs do not care about the type of the beer. It can be cider, lager or beer; it can be slops or flat. Slugs are acutely addicted to beer and they will drink themselves into a stupor, fall into the beer and die.

Even if there are a dozen dead slugs in the beer, other slugs will still come and drink from there. Empty the jars every day or they begin to smell and replenish with beer for that night’s party. You can quickly reduce your garden’s slug population in this manner.

If you are having problems with ants of any species, you could buy a pot of nematodes. These are tiny insects that live in the soil and feed on any insects in the soil that they come across.

Ants and termites are a normal source of food. Nematodes can wipe out a colony in a week or two. Buy them from a farming or garden centre, mix them with rain water and tip the water over trouble areas.

Natural predators are a very useful means of controlling pest insects. Harmless lizards and snakes are excellent for this job. However, cats will kill these animals. My neighbour’s two cats have emptied the surrounding gardens of lizards in the last six months alone.

Whereas I used to see lizards hunting every day, I have not seen any for days. This will impinge on our plants unfavorably, so from now on those cats are not welcome in our garden.

Cats will also discourage birds from coming into a garden and birds eat thousands or insects a week each. I still have a lot of birds in the garden, but they only hunt in the rose bushes now where the cats are scared to go.

You can try growing the plants that you would use as natural insecticides in among the plants that you would use them on. For example, greenfly do not like garlic and some gardeners spray their rose bushes with crushed garlic and water, but you can get the same result from planting garlic under your roses. One garlic is not sufficient, you will have to have half a dozen or more per bush, but what is wrong with that? You can eat or sell the garlic.

Wireworms can be attracted into tin cans and disposed of. Take a large can, put in a layer of vegetable peelings and punch holes in the sides of it with a screw driver. Empty it every few days.

There are many more ways of destroying or repelling pests in the garden without using any kind of pesticide at all, but you will have to look for those yourself.

The Self-Awareness Study Conducted By Gallup

Posted by: Francis Milby  /  Category: Environment

In the seventies, Gordon Gallup Jr. unleashed the idea of a mirror test. This test was meant to measure self-awareness. It had its fundamentals based on Charles Darwin’s own observations.

When Darwin took a day out to the zoo, he let an orangutan have a go at a mirror and he noted down a chain of facial expressions. He found out that there was significance in the kind of expressions came up. The orangutan acted like it could be watching another animal or just a new gizmo.

Next, Gallup decided that he would test an orangutan’s awareness of itself by testing if it can match a reflection with its own image.

The idea of the experiment was to have the animal marked with two paint spots. There is a test spot that is put where the animal can clearly see and then there is another spot that should be hidden at a spot where the animal cannot point out clearly.

The animals will as a result react to the test spot that he sees marked on his body but will be mum on the spot that was marked on a hidden part of the body. Whenever there was a no mirror, the animals rarely touched the spots.

The first time an animal sees himself on the mirror, you should expect him to have a reaction similar to a blind person who has had his eyesight restored for he first time since childhood. He treats the reflection as another person.

Among the animals that did well in a mirror test include the gorillas, chimpanzees, bottlenose dolphins orangutans and elephants. Just when people had written off the gorilla additional findings showed that they had passed.

The biggest losers are K9s, cats and human babies. Human beings are just at the line. They have the mirror stage, so to speak, which means that they will not pass until they are well over 18 months old. The same is seen with pigs that can only pass the test once a slight variation is done. Pigs are able to identify a bowl hidden behind a wall if they are given a mirror.
