Every once in a while it seems that city officials get their act together long enough to pass judgment on beyond decayed beyond repair. Once the verdict is out there is usually no turning back and the demolition crews are sent in to clear the eyesore off the face of the earth. Sometimes the building might be structurally sound but might have violated some zoning or other law. In some instances the proprietors might have a grander vision for the lot than earlier imagined and additions to the already existing building are not an option.

All types of demolition begin the same way, with much paper-work and, if it is done properly, much planning. Permits must be gained from the various bodies-in-charge of whatever agencies which are involved, both directly and indirectly. Submitting all the necessary notifications, disconnecting every utility – water, sewerage, electricity – and whatever else is connected.
