There are a number of people around the globe who are starting to realize just how important it is that we solar power? Are you one of these individuals?
Installing a residential solar energy system can be a great way to help the environment and reduce your energy bills. While it was once an expensive option that most people could ill afford, today’s home solar systems are easier to install, more efficient and less costly.
Truth be known, if you are handy around the house, you might even be able to install a solar system in your house by yourself. But, first, you need to decide exactly where you will install it.
Obviously, a solar power system needs sun. So, these systems need to be installed on top of your home or at some other space that is oriented in order for the sunlight to hit it. Additionally, it needs to be south facing so that it is getting the largest amount of sunlight. Normal installations are on the home roof. But, if the roof is not suitable and/or there is a location on the ground that receives a high amount of sunlight, then feel free to put it there.
You should remember that many cities require you to have a permit prior to installing these on your home. In fact, before you do any type of modification to your home, you will be required to have a permit. This does not only apply to solar systems. So, it would be prudent for you to take a trip down to the city hall to get the required permits and find out if there are any ordinances that control where you can put your solar panels.
Now, installing a home solar energy system isn’t for everyone. You might be smart to contact an expert. You are going to be modifying the wiring of your home and it is important to do this correctly. If not, you might damage your home. In some locals you may be required to have a licensed electrician do the work.
If you are concerned about your home solar power system creating enough power for all of your families requirements then a good option for you is to stay on the power grid. This will allow you to supplement with electricity from the power company if your electricity loads exceed the output of your system. In some cases, you may find that you generate more electricity than you can use and you may be able to sell this back to the power company.
Although it does have an up front expense, installing solar power for your house can be a super way to reduce your carbon footprint. You can also have an impact on how you effect the environment. An additional benefit will be the amount of money that you decrease those monthly power bills!
