Considerations To Properly Train Your Kitten

You need to train your cat differently than you would train a dog; cats are very different. Cats have unique personalities, and are much more independent than is your average dog. Plus, they have different behaviors that are largely unique to cats.

The best place to start training your cat is to teach it not to jump on the table. Ideally, you will start teaching your cat this when it is still a kitten. This way the cat grows up knowing that the table is not where they should be.

Don’t ever feed a cat on the table. If you do, you will undermine your training of the cat and give it mixed messages. You can’t tell a cat not to jump on the table, then feed it on the table.

You’ll also want to make your cat stop biting. You need to be careful where you put your hands on a cat especially if it is a female. You want to avoid the hind area because this makes them uncomfortable and they have a tendency to get uncomfortable when you touch them there.

Cats make wonderful pets. If you teach them right from wrong when they are a kittens, they grow up knowing how to behave. It’s much harder to teach an older cat. If for the first year of its life a cat has been allowed on the table and then you try to train it, it will be confused as to why suddenly it is not supposed to do something that used to be ok.

Bear in mind that cats don’t learn immediately. If you train a cat to know right from wrong, you will be glad in the long run but it will take some time.

The thing to remember is that a well-trained cat is more fun to have around. Once your cat is trained, you’ll enjoy it more.

Invest some time and effort into teaching your cat the proper way to behave. This will be well worth it. Know at the outset, though, that it won’t happen overnight.
