Solar panel installation is big business and it looks set simply to increase. But with more incentives to make the solar choice, there has never been a better time to make this move. Here are five reasons that now is the time!
Firstly, the feed in tariff. There are now dozens of nations around the globe who have solar power feed in tariffs. The UK will introduce its tariff in April 2010. It will mean that consumers who have solar panels installed will be paid by the utilities companies for every unit they generate – even the ones they use themselves! These rates are then increased for any units sold back to the grid.
Second, the environmental benefits are huge. While converting one household or even ten households to solar generated electricity would make next to no difference to the environmental effects, getting millions of people to do so will make a difference. It’s vital for the global climate that we do something about the carbon consumption levels right now. Putting this off is no longer an option.
Lastly is the feed in tariffs and government incentives. Feed in tariffs are in place in many developed nations now. Notably, the UK government will introduce its feed in tariff in April 2010 which will mean that households and businesses with solar panels will be paid by the utilities companies at a premium rate for every unit of electricity generated, even though the household itself will use those units. Any excess units generated that will be “fed in” to the grid and can be sold by utilities companies to other households, will also be paid at an inflated rate. This positions solar panel installation as a great financial investment.
These highlight just three of the many reasons that solar panel installation is a great move. The financing around it now means that it has become much more an investment than an expense. With that and the environmental benefits coupled, those consumers reluctant to make the switch are now reaching a point at which they have no further excuses to put it off. The attractive incentives mean we should see a huge uptake in the coming years.
