Designing Building With Solar Panels

Posted by: Adriana Noton  /  Category: Solar Energy

When it comes to designing building with Solar Panels, you’ll have a few more things to consider than you would when designing just any old home, but it is well worth this extra trouble. You only need to consider where to put the solar panels so as to expose them to the most sunlight, and from there, you build the home as you would any other.

It is unfortunate that all of those mid-nineties predictions about solar energy never came true. There were those who said that the entire world would be running on solar power by twenty ten. Well, that turned out not to be true. Why not? Who knows. All of the advantages of solar power. They’re true, they’re not myths, and they’re not “predictions of things to come”. Solar energy is cheaper, safer, better for the environment, and easy to install.

So there’s no telling why the whole world isn’t on solar time yet, but here are four reasons why you should be.

It Can Save You Money This is the most obvious benefit. Why pay one hundred, two hundred a month on electricity when you could be getting it for free? Even if you don’t want to build your entire home around solar electricity, you can supplement your electricity with it and seriously cut back on the amount you’re spending on electric.

It Can Make You Money In some parts of Canada, if you’re connected to the grid and you use solar, you might just get a check from the local government each month based on how much energy you’re putting back INTO the grid. How cool is that? You can use this to supplement your income and make a few extra bucks every month. So if you’re building a new home and want to run entirely on solar, you may want to go ahead and get hooked up for traditional electric anyways to help out the neighborhood and make a little extra money.

It’s Better for the Environment This is why it’s such an important step towards the future. It may not even be in your lifetime that the whole world is running on solar, but sooner or later, it will be a necessity. The world is running low on fossil fuel, it’s a finite resource. On the other hand, the sun will be around for at least a few billion more years.

Solar Technology is Still Advancing As advanced as it is today, they’re still making further steps forward all the time when it comes to solar technology, so building a solar home today will get you ready for the coming revolutions all that much easier. Again, it’s going to be a long time before the whole world catches on, but while you’re here, you may as well try to save a little money, earn a little money, take better care of the environment, and just have a better home altogether. Again, all you have to consider is how to get the panels onto the roof or the yard as such to expose them to the most sunlight, and beyond that, it’s just a matter of sitting around and letting the panels do their job.

Simple Steps To Get Your Family Recycling

Posted by: Sarah Dudley-Jones  /  Category: Recycling

The current topic everywhere is how to go green and what does it mean to be environmentally friendly? For those new to recycling it could seem slightly overwhelming on where the best place to begin would be. Learning all about recycling starts with little things that can be developed into larger projects.

Recycling is basically collection, sorting and processing all waste products in order to be used in the production of new products without the either purchasing new or providing items that can be made into another useful item. There are three Rs to keep in mind while getting in the habit, reduce, reuse and recycle.

One of the main factors of recycling is that it prevents landfills from becoming overloaded with items that could cause damage to the earth, food supply and future of safe uncontaminated living environments. Everyday there is an article in the newspaper or a report on the television about dangerous chemicals that have been found in neighborhood water supplies. It may take years but, sooner or later the water supply will be unfit to drink due to contamination. Burning trash is not the answer either, when waste is burned it releases nasty chemicals into the air that will some day be extremely harmful.

To begin recycling it may be necessary to take baby steps until you get the hang of it, but it is possible and really a lot simpler than many expect. One of the easiest things to start with is using either a bag you already have, such as small tote bag or an over sized hand bag for bringing groceries home in. Instead of answering the paper or plastic question the bag persons always ask, use your own. These recycled bags can also be purchased for around fifty cents at most grocery stores.

If you area has a separate pick up for recycled packaging, take advantage of this. Separate all materials according to the cities outline. For example, separate paper and plastic containers from the other waste and place them in containers provided by the city. Avoid at all costs placing any plastic jugs in with the other waste. Also put any paper waste with the plastic waste. There are a number of items that will go into this category that most do not even realize should go into a recycle bin, including egg cartons, milk containers, butter bowls and cake mix boxes, just to name only a few of the paper and plastic recyclables.

For an excellent recycling project that will also save you money. Purchase Epsom salts, they are only a couple dollars for a large container, mix them with a couple drops of scented oil stir to mix and place in a jar that would have been thrown out. You have just recycled the jar and saved money.

To get children involved in the recycling process, explain to them in general terms what it means and give them ideas that they can use. For example, provide them with used computer paper with one side still clear to color on. Or help them make a quilt or handbag from old clothing. This is wonderful when there are enough pieces to make a small quilt, it can be donated to a retirement center or hospital.

Cleaning is excellent for the home but bad for the environment when chemical products are used. For a quick and simple solution to clean glass use white vinegar and pieces of newspaper. Not only will you have streak free glass but you have done a little part to save the environment and recycled the newspaper. All it takes is one member of the family to become all about recycling and soon it spread to the rest of the family and then the neighborhood.
